Incomplete Latin American Spanish

I bought a version of this course that included a paperback book and two 45-minute audio CDs. I wanted something that didn't cost a lot, but included both text and audio. I will say I got what I paid for, but I will also say I cheated myself.

The book contains 13 units, with additional material on vocabulary and grammar at the back. There are practice elements in the book, but no real drills. There are many verb tenses introduced, with sample conjugations, but the course isn't structured to help the student learn them thoroughly. The CDs are simply remastered cassettes. They offer the student the opportunity to listen to dialogues and back up and try them, but it doesn't seem practical in reality to try to rewind and replay the dialogues. Now, having finished the course, I'm looking at the possibility of having to buy another, more expensive one. And incidentally, the book's content is almost entirely geared toward travel. There are no domestic or other examples, and practically no vocabulary introduced that doesn't relate to travel situations.

I was hoping that they had updated the CD's from the earlier version (2003). But instead, the narrator still says: "Rewind your cassette"!
That being said, it's still a good basic get-along-on-a-trip Spanish course.

My name is Helen. I am from US. I was upset that I couldn't get the winner's factory book since I was not in india. But when I searched in amazon I was like "praise God." My only regret is not getting this book before. I love this book so much. It is so inspiring and I learned so much from it. I am looking forward to buy "my prayer's diary," but I noticed in kindle I can only highlight and can't write notes. About the Author

Dr. Kurt Marti is a full Professor of Engineering Mathematics at the "Federal Armed Forces University of Munich“. He is Chairman of the IFIP-Working Group 7.7 on “Stochastic Optimization” and has been Chairman of the GAMM-Special Interest Group “Applied Stochastics and Optimization”. Professor Marti has published several books, both in German and in English and he is author of more than 160 papers in refereed journals.

Highly recommended for any users of multivariate analysis

This book is an extraordinary reference that covers many important topics in a lucid way. It's mathematically accurate, though not heavily so, but also has a lot of important "lore" that's missing from many books to allow potential users to bring methods in practice. Just to pick two topics, the chapter on ecological resemblance provides many really useful caveats that prospective users need to know and the treatment of redundancy analysis is similarly lucid and much better than any other description I have read. Highly recommended for anyone who makes use of multivariate analysis techniques in ecology, biology, psychology, sociology, data science, etc. The examples are from ecology but none of them appear to be so heavy that if you don't have an ecology background you couldn't figure out what's going on with a bit of time on Wikipedia. The fact that this is a Third Edition is evident: The text is all quite smooth and clean.

The only worry I have is that a 1000 page paperback might get beat up and fall apart, but I'll take the risk for this quality of content.

One of the best balances between a text focused to a non statistician group (ecologists and biologists) and a in deep explanations of mathematical and logical principles of statistics. Major focus in multivariate analysis, but with several important concepts applied to univariate problems in ecology.

A clean and clear text with pleasant introduction

This comment is about the capstone 2010 edition of Wealth of Nations. I looked at several editions of the Wealth of Nations at the brick and mortar bookstore and text of this book is very nice. The book is a pleasure to hold, and delightful to read; I think it is in relaxing and forthright Arial font. Whatever the font, it is not some ancient-looking typeface like some editions offer.
As for some other commenter's complaint about this text being gutted by "liberal" Bowdon, I apparently lack the sophistication to judge this travesty as I think it's fine. You are welcome to get the original text for $0.99 for your Kindle if you are really that freaked out by a very slightly "modernized" text. I, however; think it is worth your money to buy the paper edition.

How and Why The Wealth of Nations is "one of the most important and influential books ever written."

The title of this review is from the Foreword to this volume, written by Eamonn Butler (Director of the Adam Smith Institute), and continues as follows: The Wealth of Nations "transformed how we think about the nature of economic life, turning it from an ancient to a recognizably modern form." Razeen Sally is Senior Lecturer in International Political Economy at London School of Economics and Co-Director of Eureopean Centre for Political Economy (ECIPE). In the Preface, he observes, " The governing principles of the Smithian economic system is 'natural liberty' (or non-intervention), which allows 'every man to pursue his own interest his own way, upon the liberal plan of equality, liberty and justice.' And as Smith goes on to say, 'All systems of preference or restraint, therefore, being thus completely taken away, the obvious and simple system natural liberty establishes itself of its own accord.'"

Those who have read one or more of the volumes that comprise Tom Butler-Bowdon's "50 Classics" series already know that he possesses superior reasoning and writing skills as well as a relentless curiosity when conducting research on history's greatest thinkers and their major works. For these and other reasons, I cannot think of another person better qualified to provide the introductions to the volumes that comprise a new series, "Capstone Classics."

Unlike so many others, he provides more, much more than a flimsy "briefing" to the given work. In his 32-page Introduction to this edition of The Wealth of Nations, Butler-Bowdon discusses subjects and issues such as these in order to create a context, a frame-of-reference, for Smith's insights:

o Adam Smith and the world in which he lived
o The Wealth of Nations (TWON): Its origins and influences
o The major political and economic issues that it addresses
o The meaning and significance of two terms, "wealth" and "nations," in the book's title
o Contemporary works with which it was compared and contrasted
o Adam Smith's views on social relations
o How a strong market "works"
o Why specialization is "the key to prosperity"
o Smith's views on enlightened self-interest as opposed to society's best interests
o The crucial role of capital
o How and why SMith differentiates (in TWON) a nation's productivity and its system of currency
o The respective roles of price and demand in a market economy
o TWON's "agrarian bias"
o Smith's views on government's proper role
o Correlations between personal wealth and natural wealth
o Smith's views on human rights

There are dozens of others, of course, but hopefully these will provide at least some indication of the scope of Butler-Nowdon's coverage in the 32-page Introduction. As indicated earlier, is to create a context, a frame-of-reference, for Adam Smith's insights. He does so brilliantly and also in each of the other volumes in the "Capstone Classics" series that have been published thus far.

Can't go wrong with Adam Smith! Would have liked the complete book but this copy is awesome. The book it's self is of very high quality, the pages are some if the best I have ever seen. Only complaint is the dust cover is only half the height of the book.

About the Author
Joshua Cole is Professor of History at the University of Michigan. Specializing in the social and cultural history of France since the Revolution of 1789, he earned his Ph.D. at University of California at Berkeley. He is the author of The Power of Large Numbers: Population, Politics, and Gender in Nineteenth-Century France (2000).

Carol Symes is an Associate Professor of history and Director of Undergraduate Studies in the history department at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, where she has won the top teaching award in the College of Liberal Arts and Science. Her main areas of study include medieval Europe, especially France and England; cultural history; history of information media and communication technologies; history of theatre. Her first book was A Common Stage: Theater and Public Life in Medieval Arras (2007).

Was on site for Western Civilizations: Volume 1 and noticed they had an eBook for rental. Rented it only to realize later that the eBook rental was for Volume 2. Praise thee Amazon Rental!

Rented this textbook for my Ancient and Medieval World History class. To my surprise, it delivered brand new and still in plastic wrap. The paperback cover has a nice texture to it, but still not durable enough for any college textbook. I tried very hard not to abuse the cover or binding, but it's so easy to ruin the corners when sliding it into a book bag. The content in the book wasn't horribly written, but the chapters were a lot longer than necessary for my specific class. I tried keeping up with the assigned readings but the class was way too fast paced to read everything, (the tests were based on her notes anyway). If you love history I'm sure it will be easier for you to get through the chapters than me.

An honest account from an honest man.

“Cometh the hour, cometh the man” is an adage that was penned for men such as General H. Norman Schwarzkopf.

It is very easy for Englishman to prefer British heroes over those from other countries. Some might say it is even easier for United States citizens to acknowledge the achievements of their own citizens whilst deprecating those of any other nation. Eisenhower, for example, was a great man - but so was Montgomery!

This book, however, is about a man who is not in open comparison to any. He tells an account of his own life which, as others have already stated, is so honest as to be brutally so. How odd that the fickle finger of fate is able to steer any man towards his ultimate destiny. What if Eisenhower (or even Montgomery) had joined the Navy?, what if Norman Schwarzkopf had railed against his father’s wishes and “not” joined the US Army?

But they did and I am unable to avoid that clich� which demands that “the rest is history.” Having said that, I would suggest General Schwarzkopf’s contribution to that history is as great as any man’s.

Other reviewers have sought to express their views in their own ways and quite rightly so! Some of those reviews give the reader a quick impression – “it’s a great book” and all that, whereas others seek to paraphrase the book and, is so doing give the reader a better impression of what is found within it’s pages.

Me, well, for the very first time in a long time, I feel as though I have read a book. Just think about that. Take a moment to look at any of my book reviews, then click on that button which says “see all my reviews” and you will see what I mean. Some of those books are on subjects I feel very passionate about. Some are great books and well worth the 5 star rating given. Others are less than ordinary and not even worth the single star one is required to donate to the charitable cause that best describes that particular offering in print.

Then I find a biography from a retired general who came to prominence during the first Gulf War, the biography of a man who recognised it does not take a hero to order men into battle, the biography of an ordinary bloke who did good, served his country and the cause of freedom well and expects nothing in return.

Buy it. Read it. Only then will you also appreciate what I mean by having “read” a book. There will come a time when you will read it again.

Never Tied Down is a story about grief, forgiveness, reunion and especially pure, unconditional love.

Rarely, a book gets me all emotional and sensitive, but this book touched a soft spot in my heart. Never Tied Down is a story about grief, forgiveness, reunion and especially pure, unconditional love. Anie Michaels wrote very emotional pages that not only enhance her enormous talent but at the same time pushes you to live every step with the characters.

"Then suddenly, Riot Bentley was sitting across from me, smiling, and I didn’t know if I’d be able to stay away from him any longer"

This book starts right after that Kallie suffer a huge loss. His grief affects not only his heart but keeps it away from the person she loves most in the world, Riot.
From both points of view, I can say that each character felt closer to my heart. (Thanks Anie for that!)

I think I can not write this review without feeling again every emotion and tears as I read it. Some parts more than others. I could feel the distance between them at the beginning of the book, that was something that I expected, just not in such a deep way. At the same time I can smile when they began to build their relationship again. The way Riot love Kallie in the distance, and how does she open her heart, is something lovely to read.
The attraction is not just physical, their connection is from the heart. In a gentle way, without reservation.

“You have nothing to be sorry for, baby.� Absolutely nothing.� You did what you had to do in order to survive, I get that.� And I’m glad you’re here, now, giving us a chance to talk.”� I rubbed my thumb over the back of her knuckles, gently, but then pulled away, not wanting to push it.�

These characters are so mature, strong and positive. Kallie shone more and more as I turned the pages, just like Riot says, she becomes a beautiful butterfly. I love the way the author softened each edge of her personality.
Her personal growth, and as she realized she deserved to be loved, I think that is the part where many readers, as I connect to Kallie. Life can not always be run or flee, you have to take root next to the people who love you....

“I know we’ve been apart, Kal, but I’m here and I never really left.� I’ve just been waiting for you.”�

Riot is the most positive, thorough, careful and less selfish man I've read. He's just perfect and not even that word does justice. Anie could not have written a more perfect man for Kallie. I could feel his concern and love. he is such a good and noble man. And not just him, his family gah! amazing. Riot not only gave her love but shared his whole life, even small parts.

"I kissed her, then swept my arm under her knees and carried her back to the bed, looking forward to the rest of my life spent admiring the view of Kalli Bentley"

As always Anime style is fluid and from the first page emotions hit my heart in the most loving way she could have written.

Breathtaking, emotional, and full of heart!

Since Kalli and Riot hold such a special place in my heart, it’s difficult to put into words how I feel about the conclusion of their story. Anie Michaels has given these incredible characters the happily ever after they deserved and so much more. She gave them hope and healing in a way that was palpable, imparting upon her readers the incredible warmth and unconditional devotion that drove this breathtaking journey. Along with our favorite returning Never Series characters, we got to spend time with several new faces that added to the sublime comfort of Kalli and Riot’s world. In no time at all I was hooked on Riot’s family, already eager to hear some of their stories. Once again, Anie Michaels has written a sparkling story of family, loss, and love that will fill your soul and leave you breathless.

Riot is unquestionably one of my all-time favorite book boyfriends. In this novel we get to read chapters from his point of view and I was absolutely thrilled at the chance to be inside his head. Experiencing Kalli and Riot’s story from both sides helped craft their scorching chemistry and inimitable connection into something tangible and Anie Michaels definitely built up the tension in Never Tied Down. Kalli and Riot absolutely sizzled, balancing the raw emotions of their story with an intense physicality that was more than a little addictive. We also got to see a gentleness in Riot that instantly had me melting over his deep emotional honesty. As Anie Michaels revealed Riot’s pain, fears, and insecurities while he reconnected with Kalli, I found myself falling even deeper under his spell.

The development of Kalli’s character in Never Tied Down left me at a loss for words. She is so much like a piece of my own soul that I couldn’t help but feel every word of her story as I read it. Anie Michaels has perfectly captured the all-consuming emotional rollercoaster of grieving a sibling. The small nuances that trigger suffocating panic and moments of happiness clouded by gaping holes left in the world were brought to life through Kalli in a way that was simultaneously beautiful and utterly devastating. Anie Michaels allowed Kalli to heal organically and unhurried. Kalli not only moved forward with grace, but she was given the room to continue to be vulnerable and falter, embracing the character’s distinctly human nature and making her entirely unforgettable.

Falling back into Kalli and Riot’s world was effortless. Anie Michaels expertly depicts the emotional weight of loss, affording Kalli’s grief the firm hold required to be genuine and navigating the unexpected twists and turns of life that disrupt the continual process of healing. Anie Michaels has a gift for delivering exactly what her readers need along with unforeseen challenges that push her characters even further. With each new novel, Anie Michaels writes her characters with a little more heart and a little more depth, repeatedly out-doing herself and leaving me even more enamored with her incredible story-telling. Never Tied Down is a shining example of Anie’s evolution as an author, her words enchanting and emotionally charged delivering heartache and hope in a way that is undeniably hers.

Good conclusion to Kalli and Riot

ddled with self-doubt and mourning, Kalli is trying to move forward with her life. Never reaching for more, just looking to get by. She misses Riot terribly but not interested in doing anything about that. When the opportunity of a life-time falls into her lap it is as if fate has more planned than to have her just standing still.

"Now I know that I was standing still before you, tethered to a good life with Marcus, but never reaching for greatness, never looking for anything more."

Riot was giving her her space, letting her grieve, letting time attempt to heal her wounds and then she is there. In a little coffee shop, in his neck of the woods and her time without him is about to come to an end. If she will talk to him that is.

After reading book one, I have to say I didn't love Kalli. Her self-worth was minimal and even though she had a hard past, some of her actions drove me mad. She redeemed herself for me in book two though, she went through a lot of changes and came out so much stronger on the other side. Riot on the other hand, I loved him. I loved his patience and understanding. He had this way about him that made me smile and hints of dirtiness that made me swoon. I can't say how happy I was to have his POV in this book and the ability to learn more about him.

The second installment came together nicely for me. I enjoyed watching both characters grow and move to a place in their lives where they can achieve all they are meant for. There was a lot of reflection and bittersweetness throughout the story. By losing her whole purpose in life, Kalli had to figure out how to live again and even find the answers to her past hurts. There was also some serious heat and the chemistry between Riot and Kalli that never dwindled and if possible grew more intense. I enjoyed this story and while not my normal, "go-to" type of book it was a nice change to get some "feels" and deeper emotional involvement with the characters.
