STILL an awesome book!!!

I see some posts by self-proclaimed "amateur experts" about Mr. Law's books being "dated" and having "many errors". But I NEVER see any of these "errors" pointed out. One person said that he sent a whole list of errors to Mr.Law, but none of them were included in newer editions of his books. Hmmmm...maybe that's because the alleged "errors" were BS and weren't errors at all. As to the book being "dated", I have both of the newer, much-hyped versions of the 98K books that are supposedly the newest and best coverage of the 98K, and they don't impress at all, except they are saying in 3 volumes what Mr. Law said much more concisely in two, for a lot less cost. All they really are, are rip-offs of Mr. Law's work, including how he shows the different changes made to the 98K.
As to the "Sniper Variations" book....it is just amazing how well it has stood the test of time. The info is still accurate and NO book since it's original printing has come close to covering the subject of 98K sniper rifles as well as this one does. It is a valued addition to my 98K library, right next to Volume 1.

NOT as good as the first volume on the K98.

Actually, I was quite disappointed in this book about the sniper variants of the K98 as I was so overly impressed with Volume I of Backbone of the Wehrmacht. Whereas the first book is the end-all book ever printed on the K98 Mauser, this book does not follow up with the same type of painstakingly researched data, information, production dates, codes, and things such as that.
The photos are not as plentiful, the information is at times not very specific, and there is heavy reliance here on simply reprinting original German WWII-era documents regarding sniper training and sniper rifle data. There is suprisingly little study done here on scopes, on scope markings, on prewar civilian scopes, and on actually studying surviving original sniper rifles.
If you're wanting to know everything there is to know about K98 sniper rifles, this book will not answer all your questions. Unfortunately, there's not much else out there. Truthfully though, on this subject, I think The German Sniper 1914-1945 does a better job of examining the K98 sniper rifle, and that really surprised me.

Was looking for detailed information on K98 Mausers. Fulfilled my expectations as I learned about the differences between the sniper variations.
